NEW CENTRAL HEATING COMMISSIONED BY BRITISH GAS - 7th MARCH 2018

Dear Friends & Relations,
Cc: John Logan, (Please forward to the rest of the team) - Thanks BDS.
Pat & Stuart Carrington, Keiron, M. Godfrey &  Ted Connolly

NEW CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEM
Commissioned by British Gas

Good news informing  you that British Gas have successfully commissioned our entire new Central Heating System to include all new radiators, a new Conventional Worcester Bosch 30i boiler plus a new hot water cylinder and new cold-water tank.

The new system is fully controlled by the new HIVE wireless system which is easy to make changes to Hot water & Central heating.

Before I go on to brief you and give you some advice should you decide to upgrade your home Central heating system, I first of all must compliment British Gas Engineers Pat & Stuart Carrington (Father & Son Team).

Without a doubt they were both outstanding and worked almost non-stop each one working independently.
Whilst Pat was removing our old Potterton boiler and commissioning new pipework etc., Stuart was removing all the old radiators replaced with new. Each one knew their responsibilities and got on with the work.

To conclude, the end result was faultless and when fully tested, everything worked perfectly well. Seeing the amount of soldering that had to be done, not a single leak.

SPECIAL THANKS

I also convey my special thanks to Mr. John Logan, Br. Gas Heating Sales Adviser, who spent a considerable amount of time helping decide on the best system for our home. Much discussion went into this which I will briefly mention below.

Team Leader Keiron was also present at the start of our installation to ensure we had everything was in place and answered a few outstanding questions I raised.

Thanks to M. Godfrey who carried out the Electrical work commissioning the new HIVE  making our new system fully wireless control via our Ipad, Iphone, Manual and also via our Amazon Echo Plus. (Just tell Alexa to turn on or off the central heating whenever).

To conclude, the day after our full new Central Heating was commissioned, we received a phone call from Stuart Carrington checking everything was working well.

BRITISH GAS - FINAL CHECK.

Mr Ted Connolly senior member of British Gas visited our home to check out the completed job who thoroughly went through all the installation. Mr. Connolly took a few photographs. Ted was pleased with the work carried out by Pat and Stuart.

CONCLUSION.

If you decide on replacing your current heating system, I would highly recommend British Gas as they take no short cuts like many other private builders do, often not even having all the necessary bits and pieces required to do the work well, in some cases using old connections as we have experienced this in the past whilst installing our new kitchen.

Only difference, British Gas come out a bit more expensive compared to other providers. Worth paying a bit more and getting the best. With our new Boiler we have a 5-year warranty and one year free Home Serve contract.

British Gas have maintained our Central heating system for unlimited years and we never ever experienced any problems. Every year a full service carried out.

My guideline notes to our personal friends will follow at the end. I have enclosed some photographs taken at random.

Best regards

My suggestions & recommendations with some advice if you are planning to install a new Central Heating or new Boiler at your home.

You have to decide on what type of system you wish to commission with a choice of 3 commonly known.

(1) Conventional System - (Boiler, Hot Water Cylinder & Water tank in the loft).

2. Combi Boiler - (needing no Cylinder nor cold water tanks in the Loft).

3. Mega Flow - (pressurised Boiler needing no Hot Water Cylinder nor Cold water tank in the loft).

Conventional System commonly known. We settled for this system for several reasons as our other choice was limited.
Combi Boiler - a choice for many householders as I understand one saves money on heating & central heating.

Be aware, if you have a large family and more than one bath room, this may not be the best option especially if two are having showers at the same time. If you are watering the garden and someone having a shower, the hot water will switch off.

Mega Flow - Important to note if you do not have a good water flow rate with good pressure inside your home, this system will not be the best solution. Double check with your provider.

We wanted the Mega flow but was not suitable due to lack of good water pressure, which when checked was from the outside tap where the flow was reduced from the mains entering our home with correct 22mm black plastic pipe but reduced to the single thin copper pipe feeding the kitchen sink and outside tap giving an inaccurate reading. Understand Mega Flow systems can cause problems if they overheat which could be rare but could happen.

If you are choosing to install a Worcester Bosch Boiler, I strongly recommend you get a copy of their well published and documented brochure which gives good details of all configurations, various boilers and all well explained.

See brochure pictures below. Copy the address if you want a free brochure.

Many folks always tend to get more than one quotation. This is common practice which in my case, being a strong supporter of British Gas who have provided us with our Central Heating for unlimited years going back to 1966, and always obtaining 100% reliable service where we have never experienced a breakdown where problems not solved almost immediately, I chose to use British Gas, though more expensive than any other in general, but one is assured 100% perfection from their well trained professional engineers.

My personal friendly advice is to strongly consider using Worcester Bosch Boiler and of course the very best provider would be BRITISH GAS.

Last but not least. If you are deciding to replace all your radiators at the same time as we did, please also replace the Water Tanks in the loft if you are using a Conventional system as in our case, it was suggested, why waste money replacing the plastic tanks which never rot but I insisted I wanted everything brand new and thanks for that decision as when the old two black plastic tanks were removed, they were in a shocking condition. Thanks we do not drink water from those tanks installed when the house was built in 1979.
I have attached a couple of photographs below as a guideline advising you not to leave the old tanks in an effort to save a few pounds.

To conclude. British Gas has given us 5 Years Warranty on our new Worcester Bosch boiler and also 1 years free HOME SERVE cover.

Betty & I are most delighted with our new system working to perfection and proud of the two great BR Gas engineers Pat & Stuart who carried out the entire work.
Our system controlled by the Wireless Hive is also an interesting feature and I strongly recommend. Brief update on the Hive can be viewed below.
